My name is Nalan Smartt Jr. and my creative direction journey has helped me discover an appreciation for photography as more than an Art form but a solice of self-expression. While being involved in the inception and execution of multiple art projects with various organizations throughout the Hampton roads area in Virginia, I decided to teach myself photography in 2014. The process of being "self-taught", helped me cultivate a Photography series called Lightseekers, presenting a distinct style of Photography as Fine Art.

Honing my ability to produce distinctive images with the usage of light and color, I curated my 1st solo exhibition at Downing Gross Cultural Arts Cener in Newport News, Va. while making history there as the 1st photographer to produce a solo art exhibit in 2019. Using skin as my canvas and light as my brush, I strive to push the boundaries of “Afrofuturism” and present Art in its rawest form.
